Ionians Alligators v Doncaster & Goole U12’s
10th October 2010
G1 - Doncaster: It was a Doncaster kicked off, straight into the hands of the Alligators, who immediately volleyed the ball back and into touch. A couple of good efforts by the Alligators soon followed and being brought down just shy of the try line narrowly prevented Michael Walker from scoring for the Alligators.
After a lucky Doncaster interception on the wing, a brave and courageous George Boynton stepped up to the mark and bolted towards his own try line to regain possession and volley the ball back to safety. A number of dropped balls by Doncaster gave hope for the Alligators but an attempt to kick the ball up field bounced off one of them and re-caught by Corey Bennett, who was then forced into touch.
Several attempts to keep Doncaster at bay saw the Alligators execute some fantastic tackles, and although applauded for their efforts, Doncaster still managed to slip through and secure the first try. As half time approached it was 5-0 to Doncaster, having missed their conversion.
The second half got under way with a lunge forward by one of Doncaster’s biggest players, yet it didn’t deter Jack Green-Morgan from bringing him to the ground with considerable ease.
A penalty kick by Michael Walker made good ground for the Alligators, but after trying desperately to keep possession; Doncaster still managed to take advantage of a loose ball and score. They remained in control, with some lovely ball work, and a succession of scrums that kept play close to the Alligator try line. Unfortunately, for the Alligators, Doncaster won the game, which ended 12-0.
G2 - Goole: The Alligators kicked off, well into Goole territory, who quickly charged forwards and tried penetrating a solid Alligator defence. As Goole closed in on the Alligator try line a daring manoeuvre by Ethan Canet-Baldwin ensured their man was well and truly knocked into touch to prevent the inevitable try.
A hefty kick by the Alligators, into the hands of Goole, saw their opponents maul their way through a tough Alligator defence and over the try line. Despite some impressive tackling by the Alligators, Goole still managed to fight their way through and notch up another try.
The Alligators suffered another blow when a quick sprint up field was halted as the ref blew for a forward pass. Goole fought well to keep our intrepid Alligators at bay, despite their persistent pounding and courageous efforts. Just as the half time whistle was about to blow, Goole tried desperately to get another try but a brave kick and a fast chase was not enough to prevent the ball from going dead and saving the Alligators another try against them. A 14-0 lead to Goole at half time meant the Alligators had their work cut out if they were to stand any chance of catching up and surpassing their opponents.
The Alligators hit back with some impressive tackling in the second half. Their quest to penetrate Gooles’ defence was equally as impressive, especially by Charlie Cartmell who successfully managed to fight his way through several Goole players and reach the half way line before Goole were able to stop him.
Goole, realising the Alligators were no push over, stepped up a gear and tackled with equal enthusiasm and only just managed to bring an encouraging Charlie Webster down a couple of yards from the try line. Goole had to get the ball up field and with a heavy boot, they did just that, and an ever vigilant Jack Hatfield was immediately on hand to catch the ball and give a little impressive tap and chase to regain possession. His attempts to reach the try line were equally as impressive, with a heavy pounding through a strong Goole defence.
After a minor altercation, Goole managed to run clear and straight through the Alligator defence line to score. A second attempt to bolt for the try line was immediately thwarted when Michael Walker executed a brilliant try-stopping tackle to prevent Goole from furthering their lead on the Alligators.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Michael Walker for today’s outstanding contribution. His overwhelming ability to execute spectacular tackles are always a delight to watch. Michael may not be the ultimate try scorer, but his role within the Alligators is still a major asset, with his fearless approach and determination to bring down his opponent.
